Meet Helen â Founder of Gentle Release Therapy

I never set out to create a therapy of my own.
Life has a way of guiding us towards what we need to learn, and sometimes towards the work we were meant for.
My journey shifted completely in 2011 when I lost both my parents within a short space of time. I had spent many years working in our family business as a Traffic Engineer, Trainer and eventually a Director. After they died, I knew I needed to take a different path. I had always been drawn to complementary therapies, so I followed that pull and began retraining.
As I worked with more clients, I noticed something changing in the way my body responded during treatments. Gentle fluttering sensations, subtle reactions, moments of warmth or pressure that seemed to appear in the exact places where clients were holding emotion or energetic strain. I saw these reactions as messages. Quiet signs that something was shifting or softening.
By 2017, clients were asking if there was a book about this therapy. At that point it did not even have a name. I simply offered what felt natural, intuitive and kind to the body.
To make sure it was not just something that happened for me, I taught three friends, each from different backgrounds. They felt the same responses in their own bodies and saw the same gentle releases in the people they treated. That was the moment I knew it was time to take this further.
In 2018, around my client work and caring for my daughter, I created the first Gentle Release Practitioner Training. It took patience, long evenings, and a lot of listening to what the work wanted to become. Since then it has grown far beyond anything I imagined. What surprises me most is that while the therapy has become more powerful, it has remained soft. It creates such a nurturing space for practitioners and clients alike, a space where people can let go without force or pressure.
Gentle Release Therapy is now woven into every aspect of my life.
It supported me through one of the most challenging seasons with my daughter as we navigated her intense sensitivities and, later, her autism diagnosis. During that time she struggled deeply with getting dressed, overwhelmed by textures and sensations that were simply too much for her nervous system to manage. Watching her try so hard, day after day, broke my heart.
Gentle Release became a quiet lifeline.
Short, consistent sessions helped her begin to unravel everything she had been holding inside. Gradually, the meltdowns softened, the mornings became calmer, and she found her own way back to comfort in her body. As she settled, I began to gently work with her vagus nerve in a Gentle Release style and she made another level of progress, a depth of ease that went beyond what the basic Gentle Release sessions had created.
My vision now is to continue creating a safe and nourishing community for all who feel called to this work. A place where therapists can learn, share, and grow together. Bodies have so much to say when we slow down long enough to listen.
