Gentle Release Therapy for Kids

Gentle Release Therapy offers some really simple, gentle and natural tools that can support a variety of common childhood issues such as constipation, bladder control, stress, anger, frustration and anxiety.

Combining fundamental beliefs of Traditional Chinese Medicine (which acupuncture is based on) we also use gentle touch as a form of Energy work to allow the body to release tension. You may be familiar with Reiki which is another form of Energy work. Children tend to respond brilliantly to Gentle Release Therapy and it can be used from birth to adulthood and beyond, and you can also use it anywhere at anytime. I used it when my daughter was just 2 days old on the Neonatal ward, the next day she had recovered enough to be moved to my room, before we were discharged.

They can be in any position, whether you decide to hold a baby in your arms or for toddlers and above you can even have them lie on your knee while they watch TV. It's also a firm favourite at bedtime when these health issues seem to surface, whether that's a delaying tactic for bedtime or a real issue a quick Gentle Release treatment can help them really relax and drift off to sleep.

I haven't met a child or even adult yet that I haven't helped with constipation. Children are so great at getting back into balance even with only a short treatment, so it makes it an ideal tool for parents. In Traditional Chinese Medicine the Liver is connected to anger and frustration and by supporting this area we can help our children release that tension in a safe and gentle way.

The Kidneys are connected to Fear, but most importantly for our children Growth. Growing is such a massive undertaking and this will deplete energy from the Kidneys. When the kidney energy is weak we also feel more tired and when this area gets overwhelmed with the jobs of growing and sometimes dealing with any fear around them, problems with bladder control can surface in the form of daytime or night time wetting or both. Gentle Release has supported many children with these symptoms which normally improves after the first session, they may then need support when they start to get tired again towards the end of a school term or when they are having growth spurts or teething.

As adults we know that stress and anxiety can affect us all in different ways, for many it affects our abdominal system, some people want to eat more, some people want to eat less, some people just hold an awful lot of tension in this area. By gently holding different areas in the abdomen we can help to dissipate that tension and stress and help our children feel calmer, happier and healthier.

As your girl superheroes become women Gentle Release can be a great support for heavy or painful periods and something you can do for them or they can learn to do it for themselves.

For those more sensitive children that wouldn't like to be massaged or have oils on their skin it is a really gentle touch that hasn't been too much for any of the children we have worked with to date.

If you would like to learn how to support your little superhero(es) we have an Online Course which shows you how to use some of the key areas from Gentle Release Therapy to treat not only your family but yourself too. All too often children are actually picking up on the stress from their parents so looking after as many family members as possible including yourself is ideal!

If you want to try Gentle Release there are free and paid resources. There are two Guided Releases for kids on YouTube which are both free to view. One for the daytime called the Animals want to play and one for bedtime called the animals want to go to sleep. If you would rather buy and download than watch on you tube its just £5 for both in our store.

For grown ups there are some free Live Guided Gentle Releases and a list of resources in our closed Facebook Group, which is free to join.

My Highly Sensitive Daughterā€‹

My daughter’s sensitivities were well and truly highlighted for us in 2020, whether it was her age as she fast approached 6 years old, or the changes in her life and our lives caused by COVID, who is to say. The main issue we have had this year has been sensitivity to clothes, whilst she is desperate to wear them and go outside, play, go to school, it’s as though they totally overwhelm her body. Too ‘itchy scratchy’ as she would call it.

If she managed to get her clothes on, chances are she would just go into meltdown, get really angry and upset and need to get them off very quickly and often aggressively. We tried everything to manage this with distractions as soon as she had got her clothes on, tickling, spotting rabbits in the garden, running, jumping, TV, no TV. The socks were often our nemesis as these could easily push her over the edge and undo everything. Read more about how Gentle Release Therapy helped her in this blog.

Testimonials

'I have two very high energy little boys aged 4 & 5. Since lockdown our bedtime routines have been relaxed a little and at times they’ve become overtired, which can mean high energy and/or high emotion! The Gentle Release Therapy bedtime meditation came along at a good time as I felt I wanted to bring a little bit of calm back to bedtime. So far I’ve tried it twice - once with them both together and then separately another evening. I expected a bit of giggling but that quickly stopped, and both relaxed beautifully into the meditation, followed the instructions and seemed to really enjoy the permission to relax and a way to wind down from their day. I had some beautiful and unexpected interactions, like my 4 year old saying ‘I love you’ each time he was asked a question, and using other words to describe feelings he wouldn’t normally have done. Both settled much quicker than they usually would and I think this really helps to support calmness & provide a wind-down to support sleep. A great new tool for my bedtime toolbox and a lovely gentle way to connect with my boys.'

'The self-care element of the course has been invaluable to me. I regularly use the techniques as part of my relaxation practice and find it to be an easy and effective way of focusing the mind.'

“I'm a big believer in Gentle Release Therapy and have seen amazing results. My son is hyperactive and in doing the children's releases I've seen him calm and enjoy the story but gives him some time-out to just release. His favourite is the hedgehog :-) I can highly recommend the daytime and bedtime release audio tracks. It is very handy to have downloaded on my phone to use anywhere at any time needed. Helen has a very calming voice. I'm also very happy with the adult meditation sessions I've used these many times and having Skype therapy sessions with Helen have been very beneficial recently.”

'Amazing course. I have found this course so good it was definitely money well spent. A fantastic intro to see if the full course might be for you (I've started saving up already lol!) but as a stand alone course you couldn't spend better money on yourself and your family.
I didn't think it would be that effective working on myself but it has been brilliant feeling everything shift. I also came out of each meditation like a complete spaced out zombie... so relaxed and calm and my body felt "free". Thanks so much Helen for your brilliant work and natural delivery x'
