Redefining my relationship with food and myself

I had been struggling with my weight for most of my adult life, you name it I’ve tried it, from Weight watchers to Atkins, from Slimming World to the 5:2, I had even tried some very weird and obscure diets. I quite literally would have done anything to resolve this….and if I would do anything, why couldn’t I just stop eating? If you have been on this journey like me, you will know it really isn’t that simple.

In the summer of 2019 as I turned 39 I was no longer willing to carry this battle into my 40’s. I had also made the decision earlier in the year to grow out my silver hair and really wanted to ‘rock it’ rather than look like I had completely given up on myself. I knew Gentle Release was great for releasing emotional issues and I knew that I had an emotional need to eat. Difficult times with my young daughter and I would dive straight for the chocolate, argument with husband…comfort food, times for celebration…well you...

Supporting our little superheroes using Gentle Release Therapy

Gentle Release Therapy offers some really simple, gentle and natural tools that can support a variety of common childhood issues such as constipation, bladder control, stress, anger, frustration and anxiety.

Combining fundamental beliefs of Traditional Chinese Medicine (which acupuncture is based on) we also use gentle touch as a form of Energy work to allow the body to release tension. You may be familiar with Reiki which is another form of Energy work.

Children tend to respond brilliantly to Gentle Release Therapy and it can be used from birth to adulthood and beyond, and you can also use it anywhere at anytime. I used it when my daughter was just 2 days old on the Neonatal ward, the next day she had recovered enough to be moved to my room, before we were discharged.

They can be in any position, whether you decide to hold a baby in your arms or for toddlers and above you can even have them lie on your knee while they watch TV. It's also a firm favourite...

Stillness, Transformation and Planting Seeds for the Future

Uncategorized May 05, 2020

At the beginning of lock down I ordered my daughter a butterfly garden, a few weeks later we received our caterpillars and it has been such an interesting experience watching the process of transformation. It made me see how this process mirrors the times many of us are finding ourselves in right now.

First of all the caterpillar stage, small and cute to start with, after a while there were too many for their size in each pot and with the smell of the caterpillar poo they got banished to another room. Eventually each caterpillar became a chrysalis and we were able to move them to their new clean habitat, but to my surprise each caterpillar left part of its old self behind, still in its original form.

Then for around a week we had a period of immense stillness, whilst all those changes are going on within its little cocoon. This is where I feel many of us are right now, cocooned in our homes, undergoing this process of transformation. For some there may be little to see as yet,...

Fertility for men and women from a Gentle Release perspective

Fertility is a subject entangled around my heart, after our own 5 year journey trying to conceive our beautiful daughter Imogen, I have lived the journey and the painful uncompromising path it takes, tying you up in knots until you no longer resemble the person you used to be. When your closest friends, family and social media become daggers through your heart with the most innocent of comments or announcements. Notwithstanding the monthly ebb and flow of your own cycle and the torture that brings…that’s if you’re even lucky enough to be having regular cycles.

The fertility journey isn’t just about hormones, sperm and eggs, it’s about you and your partner, how you feel, your physical, emotional and spiritual health, how you live and how you deal with it all.

Gentle Release Therapy uses an extremely light touch to release blocked energy and help get energy flowing more freely once again. Some of the techniques use Traditional Chinese Medicine...

What's holding you back?

Are you fulfilled and happy with your life right now?

What would you like to change?

Fear, frustration, anger, grief, overthinking, worry and past experiences can all affect your ability to move forward and restrict the flow in your life.

As a therapist I often find these emotions and experiences held in the body, releasing them allows the Qi (Energy) to flow. The Liver in Traditional Chinese Medicine is connected to Anger and Frustration and also helps Qi flow around the body. The Kidneys are connected to fear, working with these areas along with others the body works with more ease from a physical and emotional perspective. As I look back over the years I've watched many of my clients move onward and upwards with their careers, relationships and family life. This wasn't an intention of the treatment at the time, we would usually be working on a physical issue, it simply seems to be a side effect of letting go and allowing energy to flow.

After my own fertility...

Releasing Body and Mind

The emotional and the physical are intrinsically linked, held together in the body, patterns of emotional and physical trauma locked away. Which is fine, until you are holding onto too much and its starts to affect the flow of energy (qi) around the body. Energy can’t get through as easily, having to squeeze past or push through and your body is working harder and harder. You start feeling tired, physical symptoms are appearing, you may find it hard to motivate yourself, you have 101 things to do but every one is a struggle.

Gentle Release Therapy locates these areas that are blocked and using gentle techniques allows the body to release and the energy to flow freely once more and by doing this helps to resolve many physical and emotional problems.

For example a key organ in Traditional Chinese Medicine is the Liver. Associated with ligaments and tendons, which can surface as physical aches and pains, imbalances and tightness. The Liver is impacted by anger and...
