Ghost Points

An old set of points for helping someone settle, gather and come back to themselves.

A one-day live training The Thirteen Ghost Points Needle-free Intuitive touch CPD certificate £145

The point that says, come back, you are still here.

From the course notes, on Du 26, the first of the thirteen.

An invitation to go further back

Where the tradition kept its ghosts

The Ghost Points are an old grouping, best known as the Thirteen Ghost Points of Sun Simiao, the seventh-century physician.

In the language of their own time, these were points for a person who was not themselves, whose spirit had been disturbed or displaced. Each carries a ghost name, gui, and together they map places on the body where, in that older way of seeing, a person could be reached and called home.

Our understanding is different now, but there is still something very recognisable underneath that old language.

These are points to reach for when someone is worried, unsettled or unable to switch off, carrying grief, depleted, overwhelmed or scattered, supporting them to settle, gather and come back into balance. And sometimes they meet those deeper moments when shock, fear, grief or life itself has knocked someone out of themselves and they need help to feel more like themselves again.

Where the Spirit Points reach towards the sense of who we are underneath everything, the Ghost Points offer another way of helping someone find steadiness and come back towards themselves.

The two sit naturally alongside one another.

Who this is for

For those who have done the Practitioner Training

This day is for anyone who has attended the Gentle Release Therapy Practitioner Training. You don't need to be qualified yet, so if you're still working through your case studies or haven't taken the exam, you are very welcome.

The Ghost Points build on what you already know. You'll be holding points and listening to the body just as you learnt on the training, so we won't be going back over the basics.

It may be for you if…
  • You'd like a wider range of points to draw upon within your Gentle Release treatments.
  • You work with clients who find it difficult to settle, switch off or feel grounded.
  • You meet people carrying worry, anxiety, grief, depletion or the effects of shock and difficult experiences.
  • You feel drawn to the older, more spiritual roots of the work.
  • You're curious about the stranger corners of the tradition, ghost names and all.
  • You're open to receiving the work as well as learning to give it.

You don't need to decide that someone "needs a Ghost Point treatment". As with the rest of Gentle Release Therapy, you listen to the body and the person in front of you. The training simply gives you another set of points to listen with.

What we work with

The Thirteen, and the two that came after

We work through the thirteen in their traditional order, from Du 26 in the philtrum to Haiquan under the tongue, followed by the two points added later in the tradition, PC 5 (Jianshi) and SI 3 (Houxi). Fifteen in all.

For each point, you'll learn its ghost name and what it means, names such as Ghost Palace, Ghost Bed and Ghost Market, where to find it, and when you might reach for it with your clients.

Some of the points may feel immediately familiar in their usefulness. Others take us into older and stranger territory. Together, they give you another layer of the work to draw upon rather than simply another collection of points to memorise.

A word about the language. The old texts talk about madness, possession and malevolent ghosts. That is the language of the tradition, and we don't tidy it away, but nor do we use it to describe or diagnose people today.

Where someone has mental health issues, that is work for the appropriate professionals. Anything we offer sits gently alongside that care, never instead of it.

What the day includes

The theory beforehand, then a day for the treatments

The theory is pre-recorded for you to watch before we meet: the points, where to find them, and the stories inside their ghost names. You'll also receive your full course notes to keep and return to whenever you like. That leaves the live day for the treatments themselves.

You'll receive
  • Pre-recorded theory training.
  • Full course notes.
  • A live training day on Zoom, 9.30am to 4.30pm at the latest.
  • The opportunity to give and receive two long distance Ghost Point treatments with other course participants.
  • An online, open-book exam to complete in your own time.
  • A CPD certificate on completion, with a 70% exam pass.

No needles. You remain fully clothed, and the work happens by distance just as it does in the room. The group is kept small, with a maximum of ten people, so there is plenty of time for the treatments, feedback, sharing and questions. Full joining instructions will come with your booking.

What comes next

When you're ready to go further

The Ghost Points sit alongside the Spirit Points at the deeper, more spiritual end of the work. If you haven't done the Spirit Points day yet, you don't need to do it first. The two make natural companions, in whichever order feels right to you.

A quiet close

You don't need to arrive knowing

You may be drawn to the history of these strange old points. You may already be recognising clients and treatments where you'd like more ways to help someone settle and gather. Or you may simply be curious to experience the work for yourself.

Any of those is a perfectly good place to begin. You're very welcome to join us.
